WATERTOWN, Mass. – Athenahealth has acquired Filament Labs Inc. (“Patient IO”), an Austin, Texas-based care coordination platform used by providers to engage patients and caregivers outside of a clinic. Through a mobile and web-based application, Patient IO turns care plans into actionable daily tasks for patients, such as managing medications, reviewing educational content and recording self-reported data. Patient IO founders Jason Bornhorst, Colin Anawaty and Brian Gambs will join athenahealth Austin. More than 30 clinical sites currently use Patient IO to coordinate care for their patients. “By adding Patient IO to our portfolio and delivering their solution as a native component of athenahealth’s population health services, we’ve been able to strengthen our ability to partner with providers as they enter into and become masters of value-based care delivery,” said Jon Porter, athenahealth’s senior vice president of emerging services, in a press release. “Patient IO accelerates our movement toward an exciting and strategic milestone: becoming a trusted resource and partner to the patient,” he said.
