GATINEAU, Quebec – Macadamian’s My Diabetes Coach platform was chosen as one of six finalists in the Ascensia Diabetes Challenge, a global innovation competition for patient-centric digital solutions that genuinely affect long-term behavior change, improve outcomes and enhance the patient experience for people with Type 2 diabetes. The winner will be selected this week and announced in June at the American Diabetes Association 78th Scientific Sessions. “Being selected as a finalist for the Ascensia Diabetes Challenge is further validation of the potential that Macadamian’s My Diabetes Coach can have in benefiting people suffering with Type 2 diabetes that we developed in collaboration with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario,” said Timon LeDain, director of emerging technologies and products at Macadamian, in a statement. My Diabetes Coach uses voice technology to help those with Type 2 diabetes better manage their care. The data captured through an integrated wearable device and a mobile phone and through dialogue with the patient provides a personal virtual coaching experience through artificial intelligence that helps improve treatment adherence care management. The platform also enables participation from caregivers through a mobile app, Amazon Alexa and a patient portal. The six finalists will receive $12,000 to support the further development of their ideas. The winner will be awarded a prize from a $247,000 fund, with the opportunity to partner with Ascensia Diabetes Care.
