SAN FRANCISCO – Health care startup V-Sense has developed Welbi, a remote no-contact vital sign monitor that uses NASA Jet Propulsion Lab technology to track health data. The smartphone-sized device uses radar to measure heart rate, respiratory rate and heart rate variability by recording microscopic movements of the body of a patient. An advanced algorithm detects and reports phase shift behavior that is analogous with a human’s vital signs, according to the company’s Kickstarter campaign. The results are then tracked and displayed in a mobile app. The Kickstarter campaign estimates the device will be available next June.
