NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Saint Peter’s Healthcare System has launched its new enhanced recovery after surgery program (ERAS) using Seamless MD’s patient engagement platform.
“We needed a way to effectively educate our patients, measure their compliance and continuously improve our program over time,” said Dr. Attila Kett, medical director of obstetrical anesthesia at Saint Peter’s. “We chose Seamless MD because of its terrific patient experience, the robustness of the platform and the clinical research supporting their system for ERAS.”
Saint Peter’s is one of the first health care systems in the country to provide an ERAS program for caesarean section patients. The health care system is also expanding its ERAS program to support patients who have had major colon surgery, gynecologic surgery and other major surgeries.
Patients enrolled in Saint Peter’s ERAS program have had access to the Seamless MD platform since September. Using their smartphone, tablet or computer, patients are guided through every step of the ERAS program. They receive support through preparation, in-hospital care and at-home recovery using reminders, tasks, progress tracking and feedback.
Seamless MD’s platform incorporates multi-modal patient education, automated data collection and advanced reporting. The platform allows Saint Peter’s to track their patients’ progress in real-time, intervene sooner for at-risk patients, and monitor the success of the ERAS program.
“Our patients are eager for technology to support them outside the hospital,” said Dr. Elizabeth Cherot of Saint Peter’s. “With Seamless MD we are able to provide a higher quality patient experience, help our patients recover faster and keep a closer eye on our patients who can be vulnerable to problems after surgery.”
