DENVER – DaVita is focusing on advancing interoperability and improving care through a recently announced partnership with electronic health records provider Epic that will focus on patients with chronic kidney disease.
“Working with Epic, we will create a superior CKD EHR platform,” said Dr. Adam Weinstein, vice president of clinical affairs and clinical IT services at DaVita.
DaVita’s kidney care management platform includes educational resources, nutrition information and recipes, videos, information on treatment options and an online social community. Its Physicians Solutions offers dialysis options, a resource center and integrated care solutions.
Through the partnership, the platform will better help physicians manage patients with CKD who progress to end-stage renal disease and need to transition to dialysis.
“Our goal is to create technology solutions that are easy to use and are efficient in providing the right data at the right time to improve quality outcomes,” said Weinstein.
Weinstein said technology like DaVita’s helps enhance communication between care providers and patients, and remove some of the barriers to care.
“Medical information is more easily shareable and linked between health care providers than ever before,” he said. “This is providing patients access to their information in ways that were not previously available.”
DaVita also offers a health portal for patients that allows them to track their lab results, access health records, and manage prescriptions and health insurance.
“The needs of our users and the demands of the health care technology ecosystem have changed,” said Weinstein. “We are evolving and differentiating, and by meeting patients where they are online, DaVita is able to provide direct access to information and health tools that can help patients and their caregivers better manage their disease.”
